Why Spiritual Direction?
I may be a little biased, but I think everyone can benefit from meeting with a director individually. And BONUS: It's cheaper than therapy.
Do you feel stressed? Do you feel like you are in a dry place with your spirituality? Are there questions or thoughts you feel afraid to ask or voice? Would you like it if someone would just listen to you without judgment or advice?
Meeting one-on-one with a director gives you that space. Contrary to the name, spiritual direction is not very directive. I won't tell you what to do or ask you to make goals. Can you imagine that? Someone not focused on helping you achieve more or hustle more. Instead we will reflect together about the things that are most true about you and your life.
My goal as a director is to create and hold space for you. In this space you can meet God and see what He desires to inspire you with. I prefer to meet people in person, but I am happy to meet with people over video chat as well.
What happens in spiritual direction?
Literally EVERYONE has this question.
This is a time that is meant to be guided by YOU! We typically begin a session with a little bit of silence or prayer or maybe even a meditative activity. The goal is just to get you to a place where you feel fully present. All that means is that you come to a place where you are able to put aside the person who nearly hit you on your drive over, the man screaming on the bus, the hard phone conversation with your mom, or the stress at work. This time is sacred and set aside for you to encounter God and explore His work in your life.
After that, you get to talk and I get to listen. Sometimes people think they need to talk about something explicitly holy or spiritual. Actually, though, you are free to talk about whatever you want. My job is to help you discover the Sacred in any of the activities of your life!
What's the Cost?
The first session is always free. You might not like me. I might not be right for you. That first free session can help you decide. Regular sessions happen on a sliding scale from $50-$70 as you determine your need. I accept Venmo, cash, and check. Meetings would be once a month.
Whom do I see?
I'm happy to meet with anybody interested in cultivating a deeper relationship with God. I recognize that looks different for different people. I firmly believe that all truth is God's truth. Are you a Christian or a Muslim? Searching? Confused? Floundering or grounded? Let's talk and look for God together.
When we avoid darkness, we avoid tension, spiritual creativity, and finally transformation. We avoid God, who works in the darkness — where we are not in control! Maybe that is the secret: relinquishing control.
