Never trust someone obsessed with gaining power. They are, no doubt, attempting to fashion themselves as God, King of the Universe. A power hungry being yielding judgment at his will is, I think, a god we’ve made in our own image. The God of the Bible gave power away. Constantly. In creating mankind, He gave away His breath. In calling a people, He gave away His presence to serve them day and night. Then there’s Jesus–arguably the least power hungry leader in all of history.

There’s currently a lot of talk about efficiency, especially in the US. Whole governmental departments committed to it. Has anybody stopped to ask whether efficiency should be our goal? I’m not convinced God is very efficient. He created a world, then destroyed it, to have an old man and his family repopulate it. He then rescued a group from slavery, so that He could lead them around the desert for a generation. If God came to earth, He wasted 30 years just living life. If Jesus got an email asking Him the 5 things He accomplished last week, would He get to keep His job?

Did you know that the word, “tree” is used more than almost any other word in the Bible? Trees. Does that mean that a part of helping people experience God is getting them closer to trees? Does it mean that it is harder to know God trapped in a concrete jungle? Throughout the Old Testament, God speaks to people on top of mountains and near trees. So perhaps there is some value to getting out into nature to connect with God? I’m not here to answer questions, I just like asking them.
